SimplKomb is a comb honey production system that then becomes your end consumer package. The simplest way to harvest comb honey from your hives. And your bees do (almost) all the work!
Innovation at work!
SimplKomb is an in-hive solution to comb honey production without all the other parts and pieces. Let your bees build delicious comb honey right in the consumer package.
SIMPLKOMB KEEPS IT CLEAN
Traditional cut comb honey packaging methods guarantee a sticky mess and a loss of honey. SimplKomb keeps that liquid gold intact and your production mess-free. Take your comb honey straight from your hives to your shelves—or enjoy it yourself! We even beat those crystalline packages by a cost savings of $0.50 per package on average.
SIMPLKOMB KEEPS IT AFFORDABLE
Investing in a comb honey production system before SimplKomb would cost you at least $130 as a new buyer—and that only fills one super! You can fill one super with SimplKomb by purchasing one single pack for only $80.00, saving you between $0.50 and $1.50 per serving and giving you the potential for 10x your investment. SimplKomb fits into the most common medium frames you already own with ease, letting your bees get to work!
SIMPLKOMB KEEPS IT SIMPL
The other comb honey production kits produce 32 to 40 sellable packages for retail. With SimplKomb, you get 80 sellable packages. Just fold, wax, and snap SimplKomb cassettes into your frames. Kick back while your bees build that delicious comb honey right in the package. When you’re ready to harvest, simply remove SimplKomb from your frames, flip the lids closed, and snap each serving apart. Once you affix your branded sticker to the top and decide on a price, SimplKomb is ready for sale!
Less hassle. More sales. SIMPL!
Watch as creator and founder Mick Fry shows us how easy this one-and-done system to make comb honey really is!
Step-by-Step Installation and Waxing Process:
Begin by flexing the hinge of the SimplKomb cassette 5-6 times to soften it, making it more malleable.
Place the cassette on a flat surface with the cup facing down and fold the lid over the top until it snaps firmly into place.
Align the rib or bar on the lower edge of the cassette with the lower wooden bar of your medium frame, starting at a 45-degree angle.
Press firmly on the cassette to snap it into place, ensuring a secure interference fit that will hold the cassette firmly within the frame.
Repeat the process for another cassette on the opposite side of the frame, ensuring both are snapped in securely.
To prepare for waxing, use a frying pan with two wax blocks, preferably from your own apiary. Heat the blocks gently and apply the melted wax heavily onto the cassette, ensuring thorough coverage.
Install the waxed cassettes into your bee box, positioning them tightly together from the middle towards the outer edges.
Use follower boards or fully drawn combs on the outside of the frames to maintain proper bee space and encourage correct comb building.
Once the frames are full, use a bee escape to remove bees from the super or remove individual frames as needed.
Unsnap and rotate the lids of the filled cassettes to secure the honey, preparing them for harvest.
SimpleKomb Demonstration Video
At the North American Honeybee Expo (NAHBE), SimplKomb presented a revolutionary approach to honey production. Madison from SimplKomb shared an exciting live demonstration detailing how their unique system benefits honey producers by streamlining the process from hive to consumer.
Key Points from the SimplKomb Demo
Innovative Design:SimplKomb features a patented 360° hinge designed to transform into the final consumer packaging.
Ease of Setup:Users warm up the plastic by flexing the hinge, then secure it using a tabletop to firmly attach the lids.
Frame Integration:The product includes tabs that engage with grooves in a standard medium-slotted frame, simplifying installation.
Waxing Method:SimplKomb encourages the use of personal bee wax for better adaptation by bees, with various methods shown for applying wax effectively.
Capacity and Efficiency:Each frame can yield eight individual packages of comb honey, maximizing productivity and space.
Super Configuration:The system fits into a 10-frame super, accommodating 20 cassettes to optimize hive space and bee activity.
Harvesting Ease:A hive tool assists in carefully extracting filled combs, which are heavy and require careful handling to avoid breakage.
Storage and Packaging:After freezing the honeycomb to eliminate pests, the combs can be snapped into portions, packaged, and labeled attractively for sale.
Consumer Readiness:The finished product is ready for sale at farmers markets or stores, enhanced by custom labeling and packaging.
Support and Outreach:SimplKomb encourages interaction and provides support to users, emphasizing community and customer service.
SimplKomb's presentation at NAHBE showcased a transformative approach to beekeeping and honey production. Their system not only simplifies the process but also enhances the aesthetic and practical aspects of packaging and selling honey. This innovation marks a significant step forward in the industry, promising greater efficiency and profitability for beekeepers.
