Establish or Maintain Ag Evaluation with Our Honeybees!

This year, we are excited to offer the opportunity to area customers with 5-20 acres  within a 50 mile radius of any of The Bee Supply stores (Blue Ridge, Round Rock, or Dayton) to dramatically lower your property tax and receive tax exemption on qualifying products. Through this program you may qualify to pay as little as ½ of 1% of what you currently pay in property taxes.

With the annual maintenance fee of this program, WE do all the bee work. We will place and maintain our honeybees on your property aiding in eligibility to establish or maintain a Texas Agricultural Evaluation on your land.

As the largest beekeeping company in Texas, we bring expert resources to ensure you receive the best possible service.

The Texas Ag Tax Exemption for beekeeping offers a valuable opportunity for landowners to engage in environmentally beneficial agricultural practices while enjoying reduced property taxes. The exemption recognizes the unique and crucial role of bees in agriculture and the broader ecosystem. Landowners interested in this exemption should focus on ensuring their land is primarily used for beekeeping and should be aware of any specific acreage requirements set by their local county.

How to get started: Ag Evaluation Texas

Step 1: Click here to confirm the qualifying number of hives necessary for Ag Evaluation. We recommend verifying this with your county appraisal district before purchase to ensure all listed requirements are accurate for your circumstance.

Step 2: After verification, simply add the required hive amount to your cart for checkout. Please note, the amount listed and included in your purchase is the annual maintenance fee per hive. This includes the rental and maintenance of our products and services.

Step 3: After checkout, you will receive an automatic email with a secure link to the email address provided in your customer account. Please click and fill out the form to ensure that your information goes to the proper staff that will be contacting you to schedule a site visit.

Step 4: Once received, an associate will contact you to schedule a site visit to work with you in determining the best location for your hives. Once the best hive location is agreed by both you and TBS personnel, we will schedule when to place the hives on your property. Placement will begin in early May, but please check with your county to ensure placement is not needed earlier. Most counties accept a receipt as proof of service, but please confirm all county eligibility requirements.

Step 5: Once hives are placed, a TBS staff member will make monthly visits to your property to handle all necessary actions and checks to ensure the bees are thriving.

Common Questions about Texas Agricultural Evaluation

What does the bee setup look like?

Commercial hives may look quite different than expected as they are often rustic and do not look brand new like in the photo above. Typically commercial pallets hold 4 hives per pallet, so if you do not order in an increment of 4, you will have an empty space.

Will I get to keep the honey?

Through our precise scientific management, the bees on your property will not typically produce a significant amount of honey, which ensures our ability to keep our annual maintenance fee as low as possible. Instead you will be provided with a 5 lb bottle of our Desert Creek Honey as well as a 10% discount on all honey products in store or online.

Will the bees be on my property for the entire year?

Our bees will typically remain on your property for 8 months of the year, excluding the time they will be in use for pollination service off site. Most counties do not require immediate or constant placement of bees and can typically establish or maintain evaluation with the county by presenting your receipt and paperwork from The Bee Supply.

How many acres do I need to qualify?

Most counties in TX require a minimum of 5 acres and often max out the benefit at 20 acres. You can learn more about what your county requires here.

How many hives do I need on my property to qualify?

Most counties require a minimum of 6 hives to qualify. You can learn more about what your county requires here.

Do I own the bees?

Under this annual program, The Bee Supply will retain ownership and responsibility for all bees and hive materials. Through this program, you can establish or maintain agricultural evaluation without the financial expense or responsibility of necessary maintenance - we will do all of that. The only necessary requirement is filing the proper paperwork with your county.

How do I get started?

Determining the required number of hives for your county’s eligibility and placing your order here will be the first step in getting agricultural evaluation. Once the order is placed, you will receive emailed information linking to a form for you to complete. After that form is properly completed and returned, one of our representatives will reach out to arrange a site visit.

Texas Ag Exempt - Purpose for Honey Bees

The Texas Agricultural Tax Exemption is designed to support and encourage agricultural activities within the state. This program acknowledges the vital role of agriculture in the Texas economy and environment. By offering tax relief, it aims to:

  • Promote Agricultural Practices: Encourage landowners to utilize their property for agricultural purposes.
  • Ease Financial Burden: Help farmers and agricultural producers lower their operational costs.
  • Support Rural Communities: Contribute to the economic sustainability of rural areas and the agricultural sector.

The primary benefit of this exemption is the reduction in property taxes. This is achieved by assessing the land based on its agricultural value rather than its market value. Agricultural value is typically much lower than market value, leading to:

  • Lower Property Taxes: Significantly reduces the annual property tax burden for landowners.
  • Economic Viability: Makes agricultural use of land more economically viable, even in areas where market values are high.

Beekeeping Specifics

Why Beekeeping?

Beekeeping is recognized as an agricultural use under this exemption due to the critical role bees play in the ecosystem:

  • Pollination: Bees are essential pollinators for a wide variety of crops. By facilitating pollination, they enhance crop yields and quality.
  • Biodiversity: Bees contribute to the maintenance of biodiversity in agricultural and natural ecosystems.
  • Honey Production: Besides pollination, beekeeping also contributes to agricultural productivity through the production of honey and other bee-related products.
