Rent Leafcutter Bees Kit

Sold out
$189.00

Strengthen your garden and grow more vegetables with the pollination help from gentle leafcutter bees. These solitary, nonaggressive bees can visit the majority of the flowering plants in your backyard during their summer flying months. As apparent in their name, leafcutter bees will construct their nests by using leaf pieces and will also wrap their larvae  in a leaf or petal “sleeping bag."

Typically, these low-maintenance bees are used for the pollination of alfalfa, which is primarily responsible for creating the majority of feed for pigs and dairy cows.  So with this rental program you will be aiding local farmers while also enriching your habitat and supporting solitary bee populations. This will support your ecosystem with stronger trees and plants, strengthen soil, and provide cleaner air and feeds for other wildlife.

Through the rental program, you can release solitary bees into your yard and rent our nesting blocks for nesting. At the end of the season, you return the bees (with provided shipping label and instructions) for us to complete the critical cleaning and maintenance.

Two Easy Steps!

  • Store bees in a garage until temperatures are about 75 degrees
  • Once temperatures are consistently above 75 degrees for two weeks, it is time to set up your bee home.

This Kit Includes

  • A leafcutter nesting block with 100+ leafcutter bees inside
  • A hangable wooden house
  • A return label for you to send the bees back at the end of the season

Estimated Timeline

  • April--May: Receive kit. Kit ships on the date you choose.
  •  Hang the black house in the sunniest spot in your yard. Put your leafcutter bee block in the black house. The leafcutter bees are already in the block. Once temperatures reach 80° F, they will be triggered to hatch out of the block.
  • May--August: Watch your vegetable garden thrive as leafcutter bees are flying around, pollinating your crops, and using the nesting block to lay their eggs.
  • September: Use the box your bees came in and return shipping label to send us back the bees. We will clean the nest block and care for the bees during the winter months.

NOTE: We are not able to ship to the state of Wyoming
